Over Memorial Day weekend, Virginia State Police investigated seven fatal crashes across the commonwealth. One of those crashes happened in Appomattox County, where a roadside memorial now stands on Salem Road. Josephine Goodyear said her son, Javontae, was killed in that Appomattox County crash on May 22. “I got a call from my daughter McKenzie at 12 o'clock at night,” Goodyear said. “She said that Javonte was gone."
