Sand, Springs and Mojave Winds: Big Bear City to Cajon Pass

After slaying the morning buffet—bagels, peanut butter, and fruit—we spent the next couple of hours practically intravenously consuming coffee while waiting for my latest video to upload – the hotel internet was painfully slow and spotty – taking hours. Unfortunately, about three-quarters of the way through, I pressed the wrong button and all that work vanished. The time I spent pacing the floor, stretching, and doing yoga – while waiting for the upload – turned out to be a waste of time. By this point, we were literally twitching to get back on trail. We grabbed our heavy packs and started hitching across the street at the 7-Eleven. Right on cue, Anne pulled over—out doing her “good deed for the day”—and quickly zipped us back to the trailhead where we’d left off. By 11:00 AM, our feet were back on the dirt, and an immediate sense of calm washed over us. This truly is our happy place.
